I started doing triathlon at 7 years old it was still known as IronKids 200m swim, 10km bike & 2km run. My father was the influence to my multi-sport career. At school I played field hockey, ran cross-country, track & field, road running, cycling and swimming. We were lucky to also have duathlon & triathlon as school sports. During my school years I meet Dawid, we represented Western Province on many for Duathlon.

After school I moved to Pretoria to study sport science and continued doing triathlon & duathlon. In 2000 I won my 1st South African title as a Junior Elite duathlete and went onto World Duathlon Championships places 9th in the world. In the same year I represented South Africa in Triathlon & Powerman Duathlon World Championships. I then became an Elite duathlete for a few years and went to many world championships based myself in Great Britain for 2 years to race there.

In 2008 started doing 70.3 Ironman and Xterra triathlon it was a change & challenge for me to do off-road events & longer events but I really enjoyed the training & change of scenery in my sport. Went to 70.3 World Championships twice and qualified for Xterra World championships a number of times.

In 2011 I took on Ironman South Africa & had great aspirations to perform well! It was a big mistake but I learnt from it & I will be back to try and crack it. You learn a lot about your body & how it works when training & then racing Ironman.

In 2008 I also started do trial running events. In 2009 the African X trial run was established. Dawid & I raced together and did very well finishing 5th overall, we went back the following year & placed 2nd overall. In 2011 we went on to win this prestigious event. It was a great achievement for me & will be back to defend our title. I have won the Featherbed trial race, finished 3rd at Otter Trial, a hiking trail that takes 5 days to walk and I ran it in just over 5 hours.

I love the outdoors & training for different types of events. See you at the next race……
